IFA Global Conference on Ageing 2018

“Towards a Decade of Healthy Ageing – From Evidence to Action”

The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) 14th Global Conference on Ageing

Toronto, Canada // August 8– 10, 2018

By the year 2050, the number of people aged over 60 will double1. In order to ensure that the world’s aging population is well-catered for and that people live not just longer, but healthier lives, Bayer is joining the IFA Conference to support a “Decade of Healthy Ageing”.

“Bayer sees healthy aging as part of our involvement in improving the health and wellness of society.”

Dr. Michael Devoy, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Medical Affairs and Pharmacovigilance for Pharmaceuticals Division at Bayer

Why is Bayer joining the IFA Conference 2018?

We will not be simply observers of one of the most significant transformations of the 21st century. Bayer’s contribution to supporting this demographic shift is multifaceted:

  • Research and development of innovative medicines:
An aging population is coupled with an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases. Our research and development of innovative medicines can create new and improved drugs to help patients manage diseases such as cancer, while also preserving quality of life.

  •  Prevention of chronic diseases:
A higher prevalence of chronic diseases affects patients as well as healthcare systems, which are beginning to struggle as a result. Through our contribution to healthy aging, we inform patients about how they can best take care of their body through a holistic approach of healthy nutrition, exercise, mindfulness and brain training. We also participate in global initiatives such as Movember, ensuring that we play our part to raise awareness and educate. Raising awareness could help prevent chronic diseases and ease the pressure on healthcare systems worldwide.

  • Collaboration and innovation:
Bayer has joined forces with many organizations dedicated to managing a steadily aging population. We have participated in important discussions all over the world alongside key players such as healthcare providers, other pharmaceutical companies and governments, to raise awareness and shed light on the challenges and opportunities that arise through the demographic shift. Through our open innovation programs, we encourage new technologies for the older generation that help patients to stay mobile, informed and empowered when it comes to their health.
